Job Description:

Position Purpose:
Under direct supervision, perform operational activities in support of experimental, structural, and flammability testing. Operational activities could utilize skillsets related to sheet metal, instrumentation/electrical, fabrication, calibrations, hydraulic/pneumatics, large structural elements, test execution, etc.


Position Summary (from Comments):
This is an entry-level role to support fire test operations in the Experimental Test Lab. Responsibilities include assisting with preparing test samples, setting up equipment, operating flammability test rigs, and recording test data. The role also involves basic instrumentation checks, routine calibrations, maintaining clean and organized work areas, and supporting inventory of lab materials. No prior flammability testing experience is required.


Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Essential Functions:

    • Utilizing various skills, assemble and maintain complex test lab fixture and equipment.
    • Assemble, inspect, and repair complex test articles and specimens.
    • Assist with test executions.
    • Comply with safety rules and procedures. Use protective equipment as required and be alert for unsafe conditions. Address unsafe conditions before putting people or property at risk.
    • Begin to learn the experimental test process and internal lab SOPs and WMs.
    • Learn various systems and capabilities used throughout the lab.
    • Communicate as required to receive and understand work assignments, sometimes coordinating directly with test engineering.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.
    • Provide status to their direct supervisor of progress or help needed on assigned projects.
  • Additional Functions:

    • Ensure that all work accomplished meets quality standards and specifications.
    • Follow standard operating procedures when operating company and lab equipment.
    • Apply 6S and Lean Initiatives to keep shops, hangars, and aircraft work areas clean and uncluttered.
    • Implement and apply Lean/continuous improvement processes to all areas of responsibility.
    • Properly use and maintain Company-provided tools and equipment. Return items to designated storage area after use.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

Other Requirements (Physical & General):

  • Proficient in blueprint reading/interpretation and shop mathematics.
  • Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 25 lbs., and to team lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to perform prolonged kneeling, squatting, sitting, crawling, and climbing stairs, ladders, and work stands.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods during the entire duration of shift.
  • Excellent hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity for handling small components and tools.
  • Flexibility to bend, stoop, and crouch as required for tasks.
  • Good vision, including the ability to focus on small details and identify defects.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members and supervisors regarding progress and potential issues.
  • Willingness to follow instructions and ask for clarification when needed.
  • Read, write, speak, and understand the English language.

Qualifications:

  • Required:

    • High School Diploma or GED.
    • Experience with basic hand tools.
    • Valid drivers license required to operate towing and other company transportation equipment.
    • Blueprint reading and basic math skills.
    • Must be able to climb stairs and ladders, work in confined areas, and lift up to 50 lbs.
    • Strong attention to detail, good hands-on skills, and a commitment to safety and quality.
  • Preferred:

    • Experience in aviation, manufacturing, or electronics.
    • Basic sheet metal experience (&8764;1 year):
      • Cutting, bending, forming, drilling.
    • Basic electrical experience (&8764;1 year):
      • Ability to read and interpret schematic diagrams.
    • Basic understanding of aircraft inspection, maintenance, and repair (&8764;1 year).
    • Basic experience with machining (&8764;1 year).
    • Basic understanding of computer software.

Uniform Policy
  • Uniform Requirements: Purchase uniforms from designated supplier (CINTAS).
  • Interim Attire: Wear navy-blue shirt/t-shirt and blue work pants/shorts (no denim) prior to receiving uniforms.

  • Safety Shoes: Steel-toed shoes required for job duties.
