Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Aircraft Sewing Technician to join our corporate aircraft interior team. The successful candidate will specialize in precision cutting, sewing, and assembly of premium leather, fabric, and vinyl soft goods for business jet interiors. Youll be the go-to expert for stitching, seam integrity, and pattern matching, delivering flawless craftsmanship that meets FAA flammability standards and exacting customer expectations.

Key Responsibilities

Sewing & Assembly

  • Operate single-needle, double-needle, and specialty industrial sewing machines to fabricate seat covers, divan cushions, armrests, headliners, side panels, and other cabin soft goods
  • Cut, sew, and fit leather, vinyl, UL fabric, and foam assemblies per engineering drawings, cut files, and customer-approved patterns
  • Execute French seams, top-stitching, welt/piping, pleating, quilting, and decorative stitch patterns with consistent tension and alignment

Pattern & Material Work

  • Perform pattern layout for optimal material yield; inspect hides and fabrics for defects prior to cutting
  • Mark, cut, and prep materials using manual and automated cutting tools while maintaining grain direction and pattern match
  • Shape foam, add Dacron/silk film, and prep substrates to achieve proper loft, contour, and hand feel before cover installation

Installation Support

  • Install finished sewn covers onto seat frames, divans, and panels, ensuring wrinkle-free fit, proper tension, and hidden fasteners
  • Assist with removal and protection of interior components during cover changeouts; protect adjacent finishes during R&R

Quality & Compliance

  • Inspect all stitching for SPI, seam allowance, thread breakage, puckering, and alignment; rework as needed to meet spec
  • Verify materials and constructions comply with FAA burn requirements and company traceability procedures
  • Complete work orders, material traceability tags, and logbook entries accurately and on time

Communication

  • Coordinate with upholsterers, trimmers, and team leads on schedule, fit issues, and material selections
  • Flag pattern or engineering discrepancies early and propose solutions
Requirements

Experience

  • 3+ years of industrial sewing experience, with 2+ years in corporate or general aviation aircraft interiors preferred

Technical Skills

  • Expert proficiency with Juki, Consew, Adler, or similar industrial walking-foot and post-bed machines
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, work instructions, sewing templates, and cut files
  • Strong knowledge of thread types, needle sizes, SPI standards, and leather/fabric behavior during sewing
  • Familiarity with FAA flammability requirements, burn certs, and approved thread/adhesive systems for aircraft
  • Skilled in foam shaping, hand tools, skiving, and pattern matching across hides and dye lots

  • Exceptional attention to detail and stitch consistency
  • Strong hand-eye coordination and ability to perform detailed handwork for extended periods
  • Clear communication and customer-focused mindset
  • Able to work independently to meet deadlines and as part of a crew on major completions

  • Efficiency: Meet TAKT times and scheduled hours for cover sets; minimize material waste
  • Safety: Follow PPE and ventilation requirements when using adhesives, solvents, and cutting tools
  • Customer Service: Maintain a professional appearance of all visible stitching &8212; its what the client sees and touches
Work Environment
  • Schedule: Flexible schedule required; evenings/weekends during major projects or AOG support
  • Physical Demands: Lift 50 lbs, bend/kneel, work in confined cabin spaces, perform repetitive sewing motions for 8+ hours
  • Travel: May travel with aircraft for on-site cover installations or removals
