What You Will Do:
Pratt & Whitney is seeking a motivated EH&S Specialist to join our Connecticut Operations team. This role will focus primarily on managing environmental compliance, with an emphasis on wastewater, waste and chemical management, at our aerospace manufacturing facility in Middletown, CT. The successful candidate will collaborate with senior executives, mid-level management, project managers, unionized associates, and the shop floor team to ensure environmental regulatory compliance and help achieve the company’s Environment, Health, and Safety (EH&S) goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Environmental wastewater compliance and associated procedures necessary to ensure compliance with all applicable environmental regulations and Corporate/RTX Pratt & Whitney goals.
- Clean Water Act NPDES / SPDES Permitting, Sampling, Reporting (NetDMR), Connecticut Wastewater General Permits (e.g. MIU, Industrial Stormwater, Construction Stormwater, etc.). Including vendor and P&W employee collaboration and oversight for execution of sampling requirements.
- Waste-related compliance assurance oversight, including program/policy management, report preparation and submittal, and internal collaboration with parties responsible for day to day execution of associated tasks such as container issuance, labelling, sampling, inspection, etc.
- Manage or share responsibility for other environmental compliance programs such as Air, Water, Chemicals (EPCRA/TSCA/TRI), as needed. Hazardous Waste (RCRA), remediation and abatement and air emission related (e.g. Title V) experience as a plus.
- Represent assigned environmental programs in the site’s collaborative Management of Change process to ensure risks associated with facility, equipment or process modifications are avoided, controlled or otherwise minimized.
- Develop and manage compliance strategies to minimize and mistake proof regulatory compliance risks, including onsite visual inspections and audits.
- Prepare P&W regulatory reports for submittal to various regulatory government agencies including recordkeeping and monitoring confirmation prior to certifying compliance.
- Manage and oversee permit-related activities such as initial applications, modifications, renewals and renovation.
- Shop floor support also includes interaction with coating booth operators and supervisors, powerhouse operations, and Facilities & Services maintenance departments.
- Provide in-person facility EH&S program support to address or prevent conditions that may adversely impact the environment and to ensure prompt communication and resolution of potential hazards to management.
- Periodically being on call 24 hours a day to respond to spills and / or environmental incidents. (Administrative support only, shared job duty / rotating schedule. HAZWOPER certification not required)
- Support EH&S compliance assurance audits by RTX, Pratt & Whitney, or or regulatory agencies for assigned programs.
Qualifications You Must Have:
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, engineering or related field with 10+ years of experience in environmental compliance, or 15+ years of relevant experience without a degree.
- CT DPH WTP Operator Class II License and DS Operator Class II License or commitment to obtain within first 12-18 months.
- Proficiency with EHS risk reduction and task execution management systems is preferred.
- Strong skills in written communication, analysis, and Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).
- Broad knowledge of environmental regulations, with a focus on CWA, RCRA, DOT.

This role is:
Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance workers, as they are essential to the development of our engines.
The salary range for this role is 82,000 USD - 164,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.
